Episode 54 -Why Are You Here? Discovering Purpose, Passion, and Holistic Healing with Dr. Marlene Siegel
By Jessica Garrison
This week’s guest is the creative Dr. Marlene Siegel, an out of the box, awakened, highly spiritual, fearless, courageous, curious, and playful trailblazer. Her story is fascinating, reminding us that even when bad things happen, we don’t have to let it define our life.
Although Marlene has always been an animal lover and a seeker of knowledge, it was an incident with her 10 year old daughter and a horse that became a driving factor for her values. While discussing boundaries, she shares the story of her daughter being thrown from the horse she was riding. The horse could’ve trampled her or fell on top of her, but she didn’t, she kept Marlene’s daughter safe and unharmed, which Marlene believes happened on purpose. Animals are more intuitive than we give them credit for, especially when they’re around people constantly. Things could’ve gone terribly wrong that day, but they didn’t because of the connection between her daughter and her horse. However, it could no longer be ridden after this incident, and this kickstarted Marlene’s journey. She promised herself that she would never say, “there’s nothing that can be done.” Sometimes the journey isn’t what’s expected or necessarily wanted, but it’s what you need. Through this, Marlene stepped into her passion of loving animals to become an integrative vet, walking into her truth, living out of her own expectations, and letting go of the attachment of the outcome. No one else is responsible for yourself but you, so it’s your decision whether or not you want to step into your passions as Marlene has.
Marlene says that she had a subtle awareness of boundaries that grew as she started to make the connection between them and other aspects of her life. She asks people, “why are you here?” Not why are they at the location or why they’re talking to her, but what are they doing here on Earth? What is your mission while you’re here? When she would ask this question, less than half the people had an answer for her. I’ll be honest, if she had asked me that, I would’ve had no idea how to answer either because no one’s asked me something like that before. It really gets you thinking about what you truly want to do and what you feel your purpose is. It’s a way to step out of other people’s expectations towards your own and understand your values.
There was an “aha” moment for Marlene when she saw people becoming more of “victims” than “victors.” Rather than life happening to us, we can frame it as something happening for us. If something sparked Marlene’s interest, she went for it and didn't let others define her. It’s a blueprint to live by, and you can create any life you want for yourself. If you need the reminder, come back to Marlene’s episode and feel the power you hold within yourself.
